Direct numerical simulation database of statistically stationary, homogeneous, sheared, stably stratified turbulence
Description
This deposit contains the full output of 13 high-resolution direct numerical simulations (DNS) of statistically stationary, homogeneous, sheared, stably stratified turbulence, exploring a two-parameter family of cases across buoyancy Reynolds number Re_b and Prandtl number Pr. The simulations resolve the Kolmogorov scale and, for Pr > 1, the Batchelor scale; the largest case (R10P7) uses a 31680 × 15840 × 7920 grid.
In addition to the raw binary files output by the simulation, code for loading, inspecting, slicing and visualising the data is provided, along with a multi-resolution tiled web viewer that allows high-resolution slices to be browsed locally on standard laptop hardware. The raw data are also saved in a complementary sub-cubed Zarr format, allowing users to download arbitrarily selected subvolumes at full or regularly subsampled (strided) resolution on demand, without requiring large local storage or computational resources. Interactive download scripts exploiting the Zarr format are provided.
The total size of the repository is approximately 433TB. Further details are referenced in the attached README file, and a current list of publications and associated codebases and analysis tools are provided through the STRATA Turbulence Database https://stratified-turbulence.github.io/web/.
